Music Photographer
In 1978 I was introduced to the music of Bruce Springsteen and his Darkness On The Edge Of Town album and tour. Photographing his stop here in the Twin Cites I fell in love with music photography. For the next two decades I would camp out at Ticket Master locations to score the best seat as close to the stage as I could to any show that came through Minneapolis and Saint Paul. This was phase one. Then came the challenge of getting my camera gear into the venue without getting caught. Phase two. Most times, I was successful sneaking my camera into the venue but I did suffer through my share of defeats and set backs, even being ejected from venues, being tossed out on my head more like it but now begins phase three, putting these images out there, a website, a book, maybe a concert program, time will tell. As I view my body of work I can say with great anticipation…that it was all worth it, a busted up camera here and there but I persevered. My hope is that some of these images will have an impact on someone, a memory, perhaps a remembrance to those lost, but this I know, history will be the keeper of this body of work moving forward. Enjoy and Rock On!
The majority of my music images have never been published or available to view until now. It is a very large body of work so take your time and enjoy these images as I have for so many years. For a majority of the shows I have photographed, I did so as a fan and not as a credentialed media photographer, unfortunately for me, photo passes were out of my reach until I was fortunate enough to photograph shows for the Target Center in Minneapolis in the mid 90’s.
Summer of ‘23 Soul Asylum performed at the MN State Fair where I had the opportunity to photograph the show. This was my first music performance photographed digitally with my Nikon Z9 and 70-200mm.
